Built Environment
Reducing obesity and other chronic diseases in Indiana will depend on the efforts of local communities. Health can be affected by the places in a community where one lives, works, plays and learns. The physical and social environment within communities impact their overall health. The Indiana Healthy Weight Initiative provides information on built environment, laws and policies and other resources to facilitate changes to the built environment that support more physical activity.
There are opportunities in Indiana to begin and expand upon existing activities, policies and environmental changes within communities that increase access to safe places to be physically active for all residents.
